1913-1915 Huddie Ledbetter did some galavanting and getting about town. He would play and sing and get in to trouble if trouble might be found. Well in Houston he met his match and was sentenced for the first time in his life to one year hard labor on the Harrison County chain gang.
Huddie soon found he was not suited to the prison life and decided to make a run for it. He put down his baptized name and took on the personage of Mr. Walter Boyd of DeKalb, TX.
